Good news on the video-streaming front, Android users.
As promised, Sony on Wednesday launched its PlayStation Vue cloud-based TV service on Googles mobile platform. At the same time, Sony added some new features for PS Vue on the PS4 and PS3.
The Android launch comes a week after the service first arrived on Roku devices and three months after Sony expanded it nationwide. Android users who already have an account can simply download the PS Vue mobile app and start streaming. If you dont have an account, you can sign up for a one-week free trial through the PS Vue website. The service works on Android smartphones and tablets running version 4.4 (KitKat) and higher.
PlayStation console users can look forward to new features like a video thumbnail in Guide for multitasking and a new Quick Navigation menu. Available just on PS4, the video-thumbnail feature (pictured above) will let you "keep an eye on what youre currently watching while scrolling through the Guide," Sony said. A thumbnail of what youre watching will show up in the upper-right corner of the Guide while you move through other options.
The new Quick Navigation menu, available on PS4 and PS3, will appear over your show, so you can easily jump to "last channel," My Shows, Guide, Explore, and Search while youre watching something. To access this menu, just press the touchpad of your DualShock 4 controller or hold down Triangle on DialShock 3.
Sony also teased some enhancements for Amazon Fire TV its working on, including 60 frames per second video output.
