Women and Allies Protest in New York City

[By Veronica Lawlor in New York City, USA] Monday, December 12, was a march and boycott strike to protest the American presidential election, organized by the Nationwide Women and Allies. In New York City, the (mostly) women marched from Columbus Circle to Trump Tower, right up to the barricades set up in front of the building. The sidewalk in front of the barricades became a kind of viewing area where tourists and working New Yorkers alike could respond and react to the marchers.

Most of the responses were positive, but some people were not as enthused about the protest. One guy was very unusual in his opposition to the protesters -  dressed in a cowboy hat and a santa suit, he hopped around yelling out nonsense - "blah, blah, blah!" and clapping a large toilet seat open and closed like a mouth. There was a kind of shuffle and dance that went along with it - wow! I didnt agree with his position but loved his sense of illustration. He definitely had the flair for theatrics!

The protest went on for much of the afternoon - and I suspect there will be many more here in New York City in the weeks and months to come. Prepare, as one sign said, for an army of ANGRY WOMEN!
