Augmented Reality to Change Gaming
Augmented Reality to Change Gaming

Augmented Reality to Change Gaming?
The gaming industry has been experiencing a boom of late, with the release of next gen consoles and ever more powerful PCs upping the ante on what is possible with each new title. For a while now VR games have been the primary focus of attention, even more so after several announcements at this years E3 event, which revealed release dates for VR headsets, and numerous popular franchises succumbing to the allure of futuristic tech. However, while the horizon is tantalising with the prospects of VR, the introduction of AR into the gaming industry shouldnt be overlooked.
Augmented reality has been around for a couple of years now, mainly in the various guises of apps such as Crayola Colour Alive, a free smartphone app. While the software is excellent for children, and adds a new dimension to experiences, AR has continued to be a subject more for educational purposes rather than gaming. And when it is referring to gaming, there is the concern that AR limits us whereas VR doesnt. Nonetheless, that hasnt deterred brand giants Google from persevering with their Tango Augmented Reality software, which is soon to be released on Lenovos Phab 2 Pro.
This is huge news for the industry, and is one that is exciting a lot of smartphone/phablet users whom have been waiting for this kind of spec for some time now. According to the latest information, the Phab 2 Pro is going to bring AR to the masses, the only issue is, what does this mean? As of yet, it actually doesnt mean much, other than the basics that a lot more people will be able to grapple with augmented reality rather than merely read about it. Nevertheless, the introduction of Google Tango into upcoming software does mean that a lot of the apps and games we currently play could be due for a dynamic change.

Take when you search for Lucky Nugget Mobile, or other such online activities theyre enjoyable, but theyre flat when compared to the potential of having them alter reality. Imagine playing the game in its normal mode, and then imagine playing it as it influences the world around you. Its hard to deny that being able to see the games come to life in your very own home isnt an enthralling one. If we go further and dare to speculate what some of the titles could look like, you can imagine Wild symbols, Scatters and the likes popping up in your living room, giving the feel of being in tangible reach.
Should Google Tango become a success, and more smartphones begin using their software or similar, then the gaming industry could once again undergo a transformation into something bigger and better, or at the very least a section of it could. There is no escaping that more traditional games, such as first person shooters, may be a little too restricted on AR games, due to the dimensions of the environment around you. However, more casual titles have the potential to become even more addictive than what they already are.
